HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police say distracted driving could have contributed to a wreck that shut down much of Cecil Ashburn Drive Tuesday morning.

According to police, the driver of a 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck lost control in the wesbound lane of Cecil Ashburn at Avalon, hit a boulder on the north side of the road, and flipped his truck onto its side.

Officers were on the scene just after it happened at 8:05 a.m.

The victim was cut free from the wreckage and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said there was a high probability the victim was using his iPhone to open a music application and was distracted from driving. He is in Huntsville Hospital in critical condition.

A second wreck was reported near Bailey Cove Road just after the first one.

Police closed Cecil Ashburn Drive from Bailey Cove Road to Sutton Road while emergency crews respond to the wrecks.
