HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville residents continue to let their city leaders know what they think about a possible increase in their taxes.

Councilman Bill Kling held his weekly town hall meeting inside the Main Library Monday night. Tonight's topic of discussion was Mayor Tommy Battle's proposal to increase sales taxes to generate $125 million in revenue to go towards seven major road projects.

Kling has cited the current state of the economy and rising health care costs as reasons why he feels a tax increase would be coming at the wrong time.

Some citizens in attendance, as well as Kling, said if the tax increase does pass, they want to see a 'sunset provision' attached; once the city meets the $125 million they need, a vote could be held to bring the tax rate back to its original eight percent.

The council is set to vote on the tax increase proposal Thursday night.
