ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

The Etowah Count Schools Superintendent Allan Cosby says that tests haven't provided answers as to what sickened nearly 20 people at Hokes Bluff Middle School last week.

Sixth graders will remain at the nearby elementary school and seventh and eigth graders will finish out their classes at Hokes Bluff First Baptist Church.

Officials say 17 students and one teacher complained of breathing problems Thursday and were treated at the local hospital. The middle school was evacuated and it and the elementary school were closed as a precaution Friday.

Cosby says testing began Friday.

"We're working with environmental engineers to take air samples," he said. "They also set up stations to collect data throughout the weekend. We hope to have results from that data this week. We also have HVAC mechanical people looking at system in the gym and school to make sure there are no problems with those."

Cosby says those who first complained of breathing problems are responding well to their treatments.

Reporter Jonathan Hardison has been following this story Monday and will have a report during FOX6 News at 6. You can watch it on air, online at http://foxalabamalive.com or through the WBRC News app.
