Online Christmas tree shopping

Tis the season to get that Christmas tree, that's if you haven't gotten one already.

Brian and Belinda Leestma make it a tradition, picking out their tree and bringing it home to decorate it for the holiday.

"I like the smell.  I like the looks and there's no two trees the same," says Belinda Leestma.

But, what if going out to a tree lot isn't your thing or your just too busy.  How about buying your 7-foot fir online?

Experts say online tree sellers like Home Depot are seeing sales surge.  You can pick out your tree with the click of the mouse and have it delivered right to your front door.

"For the convenience and they can shop at home which is a big thing now," says Home Depot employee Chuck Miller.

Matt Adams at Lee Adams and Sons, a tree lot in Westlake, says his customers prefer picking their tree with a personal touch.

"You should be able to touch the tree, grab the tree and get a feel for it and at least know what you're getting before it's delivered," says Adams.

"I think it takes away part of the Christmas spirit and everything.  Just going out and getting your tree is a lot more fun," says Brian Leestma.

Fun even if it may not be fast.  Many customers we talked to say it's part of being festive without the technology of going online.

"Everybody wants everything instantaneously," says Chris Kilbame.

Online Christmas tree sales only make up three percent of the $1 billion dollar industry.
