MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Danville Fire Department building is a total loss after a Friday morning fire.

Firefighters from several different fire departments battled the blaze.

The fire started shortly after 6:30 a.m. Several agencies were called in to bring tanker trucks and fire trucks to help put it out.

Highway 157 from Hampton Road to Highway 55 West was closed while firefighters ran hoses across the highway.

No one was injured in the blaze, but a fire engine and an ambulance were destroyed.

Fire Chief Davis Riggins said they lost more than a building and some equipment Friday.

"There's a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into building this. This wasn't a turnkey building where you hire a company and they come in and build it. My fire department built this building. We built this fire department. It hit hard," he said.

The medical helicopter that had been stored in Danville was recently moved to Meridianville. The fire department will still be able to provide full service from their main fire hall, which housed the tanker truck.

Chief Riggins said insurance will help them rebuild and recover from the loss.

The state fire marshal and the ATF will return to the scene Monday as they continue investigating the cause of the fire.

According to our news gathering partners at the Decatur Daily, much of the  Decatur City Schools' student body will start the 2018-19 school year in a new location. The district has embarked on the largest building expansion in its history, at a cost of about $100 million.  This unprecedented move will impact nearly half of all students in the district and every student in grades 9-12, a mobilization of students that has not seen since integration in the 1960s.  Deca...More >>
