New Boeing center will bring hundreds of new jobs to Madison Co.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Boeing announced plans to bring 300 to 400 new jobs to Madison County with a new Technology Research Center Thursday.

The new center will provide advanced engineering and technology capabilities across all Boeing commercial and federal programs. It will focus on simulation and design analytics as well as metals and chemical technology.

"This is great news for our County and our entire region," said Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong. "Boeing has a rich history in our community solving some of the most difficult technical challenges our nation has ever faced. From the Space program to protecting our nation from missile attacks their engineers have led the way. This new Center will help Boeing continue to support these programs and help design a new future for commercial aviation."

Strong said local and state leaders pursued the project aggressively.

Senator Jeff Sessions issued a statement Thursday in reaction to the announcement. He said:

I am gratified to hear that Boeing is expanding its commitment to the Huntsville area by developing a new research and technology facility in the community... A top flight work force with great technical skill continues to draw world class businesses. I salute the local leaders in all areas where hard work made this possible.

"This is tremendous news for our community," said UAH President Robert Altenkirch. "Huntsville has long been identified as one of the leading research centers in the world, and Boeing's announcement adds even more brainpower to the existing critical mass of intellectual talent that exists here."

Thursday's announcement is unrelated to Huntsville's attempts to bring Boeing's 777X aircraft production to the city. City leaders submitted a proposal for that project Tuesday.
