HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Police are expecting more than 2,500 people to come out to the Rocket City Marathon on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Authorities said numerous officers and multiple road closings will be used in an effort to keep the runners safe.

The marathon begins at 8 a.m. on Williams Avenue in front of the Holiday Inn Express and goes through the downtown area then back north from Green Cove Road. The marathon is set to end at 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn on Lowe Avenue.

Police said motorists should avoid driving along Airport Road and Governors Drive near the hospital during the hours of the marathon. Authorities suggest using alternate routes such as Weatherly Road, Drake Avenue and Bob Wallace.
