HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A survey form that some could find intrusive or questionable is a legitimate survey from the US Census Bureau, according to the Better Business Bureau.

A concerned viewer asked about the legitimacy of the form, called the American Community Survey. The BBB said the form is legitimate. Your personal identification, such as Social Security numbers, are never asked for, and you are required by law to fill it out and return it.

"We're very aware that it's very intrusive. They ask a lot of questions, something like 28 pages long. But it does let our government – local, state or federal – know how to divide up tax money, where the needs are in the community," said BBB spokesperson Belinda McCormack.

Belinda said 20% of Americans receive the survey every year from the Census Bureau. Again, if you are selected to participate in the survey, you are required by law to fill it out and return it.
