HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Court documents indicate a former Madison County Sheriff's deputy was caught with a stolen .44 Magnum.

Shawn McClure was indicted earlier this month. He is charged with theft and receiving stolen property. Deputies took McClure into custody after the indictment. He bailed out of jail a short time later.

Following his arrest, complaints were made to Metro Jail officials after McClure's mug shot failed to appear on their website. Jail administrators chalk it up to an error with the software used.

Officials were more than forthcoming with the mug shot when asked. They said they were not sure what caused the issue with his mug not appearing online. Typically, they do not post photos of anyone in law enforcement who is an inmate, or who has a chance to receive youthful offender status for the crime or crimes they are charged with. McClure does not meet either of those standards.

McClure faces second-degree theft and second-degree receiving stolen property charges. The sheriff's office confirmed he resigned back in November. He worked there for more than a decade.
