SANDUSKY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Sandusky Police could be closer than ever to catching whoever killed George Martin last week.

Detectives have been working since last Tuesday to develop two potential suspects.

Although they are waiting on the official autopsy results, police believe 86-year-old Martin was stabbed to death in the basement of his home in the 2200 block of Campbell Street last week. Investigators say a fire was then intentionally set to cover up the crime.

Now police are hoping surveillance cameras at several businesses near Martin's home will tell them who is responsible. The police chief says one video clip shows two people leaving the area within minutes of the fire being called in.

Officials aren't naming any suspects, and none of the clips are being released to the public yet.

"We're slowly going through each one of [the surveillance videos]," said Det. Sgt. Dana Newell. "That's where the time process is taking us, what we've pretty much been doing. We have some detectives that are checking the videos, and then they are splitting up. We got other detectives that are out there talking to people."

Martin was a World War II veteran who police say was well-liked in the community, and who never caused a problem with anyone.

Police haven't said if they have determined a motive for the suspected killing.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
