FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The driver blamed for a school bus wreck in Franklin County that sent 20 students to the hospital is now facing charges.

Officials said Channing Haithcock was going about 80 miles per hour at the time of the crash. The 21-year-old now faces 21 counts of reckless endangerment and 21 counts of third-degree assault. He is currently out on a $2,000 bond.

The crash happened on Highway 172 in Hodges in November 2012.

Troopers said 29 children were on the bus at the time of the wreck. The bus driver is credited for helping students escape from the roof.

13 students went to area hospitals. The parents of 7 other students took their children to be checked out after the wreck.

Haithcock's arraignment date has not been set. Most of the families of children on the bus have filed civil lawsuits against him. Trial dates in those cases have not been set.
