New bids in for Jackson County jail

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Jackson County Supervisors have taken another step forward in the effort to build a new jail. Thursday, supervisors reviewed the latest round of bids from contractors who want to build a new facility to replace the aging Adult Detention Center. Four companies submitted proposals. The apparent low bid was a $26.5 million from Caddell Construction of Montgomery Alabama. Jackson County leaders have been trying to get a new jail built for more than a decade. Earlier this year, supervisors fired the architect hired for the project and threw out all of the bids. Supervisors must now review all of the new bids before making final decision which is expected at the board's meeting on December 16. Construction on the 700 bed jail could begin early next year and be finished in about 18 months. @@@
