SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man is in jail, facing felony charges after a hit and run accident in this morning that ended with gunfire.

According to Shreveport Police Department Cpl. Marcus Hines, patrol officers responded to a "shots fired" call near the intersection of Pierremont Road at Southern Avenue just after noon on Thursday.

They learned that a hit and run had also been reported on East 70th Street at Southern Avenue, in which a man operating a 2010 Dodge Challenger reportedly rear-ended the operator of a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban before allegedly fleeing the scene of the crash.

Officers say that after the collision, the driver of the Suburban allegedly gave chase behind the fleeing Challenger until both vehicles came to a stop near the intersection of Pierremont Road at Southern Avenue.

Cpl. Hines says that information gathered by officers suggests the driver of the Suburban, 50-year-old Philip Hashieder, got out of his vehicle armed with a semi-automatic handgun and approached the driver of the Challenger who was stopped at the red light.  Witnesses tell police Hashieder fired at least once at the Challenger, striking the vehicle's rear tire as it's driver, 25-year-old John Peters of Shreveport, drove away.

No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

For his alleged his role in the incident, Peters was cited for hit and run driving.  Hashieder was arrested and charged with Illegal Use of a Weapon and booked into the Shreveport City Jail.

A weapon believed to have been used during the course of the incident was recovered by authorities and submitted as evidence.
