WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Mayfaire is adding big names to its premiere shopping center, and they could bring big competition to smaller retailers.

Dick's Sporting Goods and Marshalls will relocate from their current locations in Wilmington to Mayfaire's Community Center.

Dick's Sporting Goods is currently located on S. College Rd. and Marshalls is off of New Center Drive. However, their new homes will be near the Harris Teeter and Panera Bread off of Military Cutoff Road.

Officials made the announcement of Phase Two's construction on Thursday, with groundbreaking set to begin in the coming days.

A third major retailer will also go in that shopping center, but officials have not released any details on exactly what store that will be.

However, some smaller retailers are worried that these big companies mean big competition for the already hard to grab customers in the area.

"You know we are constantly battling for business. That is something every retailer always does," Adam Rose with Try Sports said. "When you're a small specialty retail store that is full of local people that have put in some hard work and are always fighting for anything you can get, in that sense, I would say it's…challenging," Rose said.

Officials say this construction will be a big step in completing the Mayfaire experience.

"We continue to grow the Mayfaire brand and strengthen our tenant mix as we welcome the addition of both Dick's Sporting Goods and Marshal's to our property from their previous locations in the Wilmington market," H. J. Brody, a project developer, said.

Officials say this project s expected to bring more than 200 construction jobs to the area.
