JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Minor High School's marching band was honored today by the Jefferson County Commission for winning a national championship last month.

In early November the band won the 2013 National High Stepping Championship in Atlanta. The band competed against schools from Kansas, Louisiana, New Jersey, South Carolina and North Carolina.

The Jefferson County Commission presented the band, band director and school principal a resolution for their accomplishment. Band director James Crumb said it came down to discipline.

"When we won the national championship, it was a great day. It moved me to tears because the kids worked so hard and of course they had the discipline to continue to work hard, to do the hard work, to sweat," Crumb said.

The band will be performing at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. in April.
