JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

An off-duty Jefferson County sheriff's deputy is in critical condition after a Tuesday night ATV accident.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian tells FOX6 that Deputy Brad Perry and another deputy were involved in the accident.

The off-duty deputies were riding on a mine road off of Mud Creek Road in the western part of the county when the ATV hit a hole or ditch, then flipped.

Christian says Perry, the driver, suffered a serious head injury but the female deputy wasn't injured. Perry is a youth services investigator in the Bessemer cutoff.

He was unconscious, but breathing, when taken to UAB Hospital, according to Christian.

Christian asked for prayers for the injured deputy.

Stay with FOX6 News for updates on the condition of the injured deputy.
