MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama State Troopers are investigating eight wrecks that caused 11 traffic fatalities during the Thanksgiving weekend.

The travel period began Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. and ended midnight on Dec. 1. The eight fatal crashes happened in Russell, Madison, Crenshaw, Walker, Autauga, Barbour, Pickens, and Talladega counties.

The wreck in Madison County claimed the lives of Daniel Hose, 22, of Athens, and Jonathen Jolley, 23, of Harvest. The crash happened on Jeff Road between Burwell Road and Kelly Springs Road around 3 a.m. Nov. 28. Authorities said the car was going over 100 miles per hour when it crashed into a tree.

According to State Troopers, seven of the 11 people killed during the Thanksgiving weekend were not wearing seat belts at the time of the wrecks. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in at least three of the crashes.

Last year during the Thanksgiving holiday, troopers investigated five traffic deaths.
