ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Albertville City Council approved a new sign ordinance Monday night.

The ordinance requires businesses to have a permit to construct a sign. Current signs in good condition will be grandfathered in.

Discussion of the proposal began in October, as city leaders wanted to combat dilapidated or empty signage and signs that were not professionally made.

A notice about the new ordinance will be published in the local newspaper by Thursday. The new rules are expected to go into effect next week.
