LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The man accused of killing a coach and dumping his body in the Tennessee River went before a judge Monday.

Jeremy Williams is being held in the Lauderdale County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Williams is accused of killing Brioni ‘Bree' Rutland. Family and Friends reported Rutland missing last week. Authorities found his body under the Old Railroad Bridge Friday afternoon.

Rutland volunteered as a coach at Deshler High School. Athletic Director Patrick Smith sad Bree made an impact on everyone he came in contact with. He said right now the community is just trying to come to terms with what happened.

People have also taken to social media, sharing prayers and memories for most people in the community. Smith said Bree led by example, was a hard worker, and never gave up. He said the best way to keep Rutland's memory alive is to remember his kindness and to love one another.

"We just have to honor him in everything we do and work as hard as he did, and keep doing the things that he taught them – how to work, how to care about things in life. They need to continue to do that," Smith said.

When Rutland wasn't helping to mentor young student athletes, Smith said he was working on his education degree at UNA and spending time with his seven-year-old son.

A tribute to Coach Rutland was held on the court before Monday night's boys' varsity basketball game.
