First layoffs begin at International Paper plant

COURTLAND, AL (WAFF) -

The first round of layoffs at International Paper in Courtland has begun.

Officials confirmed Monday that about 10 percent of the mill's 1,100 employees will be impacted in this first round. The company is offering some employees positions at other plants.

The first of two paper machines was shut down in November.

The entire plant will be closed by March.
