JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A suspect is in custody after leading law enforcement officers on a chase throughout several Jefferson County cities on Monday afternoon.

Authorities from multiple agencies pursued the suspect through Tarrant, Gardendale and the Liberty Park area before the chase ended on 20/59 Eastbound near the 31st Street exit. The entire chase lasted about two hours and 15 minutes.

A Jefferson County Sheriff's official says they believe the suspect committed a felony, which is one of the reasons officers pursued him for so long. There is no word yet on what charges the suspect faces or the suspect's identity.

Birmingham and Tarrant police officers, Jefferson County deputies and Alabama State Troopers were involved in the chase. At one point, a sheriff's deputy wrecked his patrol car at the I-20 split heading eastbound. He suffered minor injuries from the crash.

The suspect's car was towed from the scene around 4:30 p.m. Check back with this story for updates.
