My Take Decatur Police-Social Media

Decatur Police are making plans to join the social media site Twitter to help notify the public in emergency situations. Recently a suspicious package was discovered inside a rail car filled with a hazardous chemical outside the Daikin plant. The discovery prompted multiple school evacuations. Authorities said the incident has highlighted the importance of utilizing social media. Other police Departments have seen  a huge success with social media. Social media can allow police to alert the public to everything from a major accident, to crimes being committed in a specific neighborhood.  And the information can benefit police as well. It's not uncommon for people to use social media to come forward with tips, which have been very beneficial in solving crimes.   Hopefully this recent incident in Decatur has other area police and emergency response organizations looking at the advantages of social media to better serve their communities.
