Talk show host uses show to address child porn charges

(WMC-TV) – A controversial Memphis talk show host is indicted for sharing child pornography on the Internet. Friday night, Thaddeus Matthews addressed those charges on his radio show.

Outspoken talk show host Thaddeus Matthews fought back Friday night talking on his show about the announcement of his indictment, calling it nothing but a vendetta by politicians.

Matthews said, "It's not about a child but an attempt to silence me."

He did not miss a chance to lash out on his show.

Matthews was indicted on child pornography charges just over a year after he shared a photo on his Facebook page. That photo was of a very young female child performing a sex act on an adult male.

Matthews says he found out about his indictment from the media.

According to Matthews, "No one contacted me or contacted my attorney."

Matthews said a woman sent him the photo of the child and wanted police to find out where it originated and that is why he posted it. Matthews says he did not call police because he thought they knew about it.

Matthews says he is outspoken and that is why he was arrested last year and the case sent to the grand jury.

"It's all about being a black man you can't control. It's all about silencing the Negro, Thaddeus Matthews," He said Friday evening.

Matthews isn't the only one in trouble for posting the photo. Two teen girls, ages 13 and 16, also posted the photo. They were charged with aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.

Thaddeus Matthews threatened he will get involved in the district attorney's race next year and continue to call out politicians.

Matthews said, "Will I be quiet? Nope. Will I stand down on issues in the community? Nope."

Due to the holiday weekend, Action News 5 was unable to get a comment from the D. A.'s office.

It is still unclear where the photo originated. Thaddeus Matthews faces two to 30 years in prison if found guilty.
