ATTALA COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The time has come to decide where your Christmas tree will come from. We visited a Christmas tree farm Wednesday, where they actually grow them, some three miles southeast of Kosciusko.

The tree farm is at 5068 County Road 5216, which runs south off of Highway 12, in rural Attala County.

Fifty-eight year old Mike Daniels, who is a forestry consultant, is raising about 600 Christmas trees. They are Leyland Cypress and Murray Cypress, which grow well in rural Mississippi.

He has been at it for 17 years. He cuts the trees down and loads them for customers.

"We sell a lot of trees in Jackson," said Daniels. "We also sell here locally and we also sell potted Leyland Cypress and Murray Cypress. They range up to 18 inches up to about four feet high."

We found a customer, who had bought a tree earlier, but couldn't get it until Wednesday, because of heavy rain in the area.

"It's beautiful, can't wait to decorate it," said Jamie Welch. "Our first time to have a real tree in our house."

Mike sells his trees for up to $8 a foot for those under 10 feet and from $125, all the way up to $200 depending on how tall it is. Daniels will deliver his trees to Jackson.
