AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
UPDATE:  The homerun derby was divided into teams of Major League greats who are supporting either Auburn or Alabama at Saturday's Iron Bowl.  The Auburn fans were led by Tim Hudson who defeated Craig Kimbrel's team supporting the Crimson Tide.  That means Kimbrel has to wear blue and orange when he goes to the game.

News Leader 9 sat down with Tim Hudson, to talk about the Hudson Family Foundation's Home Run Derby Friday night at Auburn University Plainsman Park. Hudson also spoke about his time with the Atlanta Braves, and starting a new chapter in his professional career with the San Francisco Giants.

Pitcher Tim Hudson, the king of strikeouts,  is hoping to hit it out of Plainsman park Friday night, Nov. 29.

"I'm excited about Friday night, got a home run derby here at Plainsman Park at Auburn University, and it is obviously for a good cause," said Hudson.

Hudson is asking Alabama and Auburn fans to pack the park before Saturday's Iron Bowl to help raise money for his families foundation, focused on helping Alabama and Georgia families in need. Gates open at 4:30, and for a small donation you can see Hudson, Craig Kimbrel, Brian Fletcher, and other baseball greats swing for the fences.

"It's two dollars at the door donation to get in, and we will have raffles throughout the stadium. You can give as much or as little, it's up to you.  Just come out and see some great guys hit some home runs, or not hit home runs, and see what our foundation is all about," said Hudson.

As for Hudson, he's doing great. 4 months after ankle surgery, he's right on track for a new opportunity with the Giants.

"The fans are unbelievable. The area is second to none. It's a beautiful ball park. They have sold out every game since 2010, so it is a cool opportunity and my family is excited," he said.

Hudson says leaving the Braves after nine years, especially the fans, is emotional.

"Great organization, great fans, great teammates and coaches, of course the legendary Bobby Cox.  As a kid I dreamed about playing in Atlanta, and that dream came true," he said.

It's safe to say Braves fans will miss him even more. Hudson is a class act on and off the field and is considered to be one of the best role models in all of sports.

His advice to youngsters is simple. "Kids, listen to your mom and dad. They know best. You may think they don't know, but they do.  They will always steer you in the right direction. And just treat people the way you want to be treated," he advised.

Hudson has won the Roberto Clemente award seven times for his sportsmanship and community involvement. The only person more passionate about the foundation is his wife Kim. The couple is proud to say that nearly 100 percent of the money they raise goes back into the community to help families in need.

So Friday, bundle up your family, bring a donation, and get ready for a great night at Plainsmen park for a good cause.
