'Old-fashioned police work' lead police to family of unidentified car crash victim

A pedestrian was crossing Victory Dr. near South Lumpkin Rd. on Nov. 24 when he was struck by an oncoming car. The pedestrian was transported to Midtown Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was not carrying identification. His identity was unknown for days.

However, Columbus Police have now identified that man using old-fashioned police work.

"Old fashioned police work, knocking on doors, we went to the businesses and residence of where the accident occurred near Victory Drive near South Lumpkin Road. And at one of the businesses yesterday there was a customer in the business, that stated he knew who the person was," says Sgt. Bill Gasaway.

That person lead police to the victim's house. His family was notified and met with police at the hospital where they were reunited with their loved one. He is still in serious condition.

The family said they planned to file a missing person report today if the victim did not return home.
