Up to $1,000 reward offered for arrest of dog poisoner

Posted: Updated:
MT. VERNON (KLTV) - Authorities are asking the public for any information they may have regarding a dog who was poisoned outside an East Texas gas station.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, the dog owner's truck was parked outside of the Super Handy, located at 900 Highway 37, from 7:45 a.m. to 8 a.m. on November 21. The Border collie waited in the back of the truck while the owner went inside the store.

Around 9:30 a.m. on the same day, the dog became ill and was taken to a local veterinarian's office. It was then determined that the dog had been poisoned using Strychnine. The vet was able to save the dog, but it is still unknown who is responsible for poisoning this pup.

A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest in this crime. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers at 903-577-TIPS (8477). You can also submit tips via text message by sending "NTX" plus your tip to 27467.
