CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Traffic is moving again hours after a tanker truck overturned and spilled fuel Wednesday morning on westbound Interstate 24 in Montgomery County.

The crash was reported before noon near exit 11, and a Tennessee Highway Patrol investigator said the driver of the truck was trying to avoid hitting cars backed up from a previous crash and went off the left side of the road, flipping the truck.

One of the diesel fuel tanks was punctured, leaking diesel onto the roadway.

The driver was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation website reports the incident was cleared by 6 p.m., but the backup spanned for at least eight miles.
