West Alabama road crews are on alert Tuesday night ahead of possible snow and slick roads.

Tuscaloosa's Department of Transportation, the city and county are closely monitoring weather conditions through the night.

The bridges in the area are TDOT's biggest concern because they can freeze over. TDOT has several trucks loaded with sand in case they are needed.

"We work in conjuction with the police if they are out and their officers see something that's icy or so forth they will contact us and we can respond to those areas," Tera Tubbs with TDOT said.

Emergency officials are urging residents to stay home and off the roads overnight. If you see icy conditions, you can call TDOT at 205-248-5800.
