HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Hampton Cove Elementary and Blossomwood Elementary both received the prestigious designation of a 2013 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School.

Only a few schools each year are selected to earn this honor. The awards will be presented at a national conference on Dec. 11 in Florida. The principals from each school will share their award-winning strategies with other administrators from all over the country.

Recipients of this award are chosen based on excellent performance in nine major categories, such as challenging standards and curriculum, active teaching and learning, technology integration and leadership, as well as school, family and community partnership.
