MOULTON, AL (WAFF) -

A cold case murder investigation has finally regained some heat. Authorities said this morning, the man charged with shooting a Lawrence County man to death nearly eight years ago is behind bars.

Sheriff Gene Mitchell said investigators in Santa Rosa County, Florida uncovered information that led them to zero in on a suspect. Lawrence County investigators had been working with Florida authorities for the last five months to pin down the man who they said they have long suspected killed Roy Dale Oliver.

Oliver was found shot and killed in his Moulton home on County Road 59 on Feb. 1, 2006. Sheriff Mitchell said his investigators developed Gary Ray Lindsey as a suspect, but they hadn't had enough evidence to charge him with killing Oliver. Authorities said Oliver and Lindsey had been friends for more than thirty years.

Thursday afternoon, authorities arrested 59-year-old Garry Lindsey at his home in Milton, Florida. Lindsey was taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail before being extradited to Alabama and booked into the Lawrence County Jail, charged with murder and with no bond set at this time.

A member of Oliver's family said the murder of his uncle has been tough on the entire family as they have wondered all these years who killed him and why. This arrest brought back a lot of emotions, but it also finally brought the family some closure.
