GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Marshall County soldier returned home and gave a surprise welcome to her 7-year-old son at his school.

It was a special moment for the 7-year-old who hadn't seen his mom in almost a year. Guntersville Elementary School held a patriotic program Friday afternoon. Trenten Bozarth was called from the gymnasium stands to tell everyone about his mom, who was away from home on active duty.

What he didn't know was that his mother, Specialist Jennifer Kasinger, was making a visit from Cuba to surprise him. Needless to say there were hugs, tears, and smiles as the pair united for the first time since she left in January.

Kasinger sad it's hard being a mom away from her son but plans to relish the holidays now that her tour has ended.

"It's going to be the best. You know we left after Christmas last year so we made that Christmas the best we could and this one is going to be even better than that one," said Specialist Kasinger.

Trenten said he's looking forward to spending time with his mom now that her tour has ended.
