HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A student brought a BB gun to Huntsville High School, according to school officials.

The incident happened Friday morning. School officials said the student has been disciplined. The school is asking parents to check their child's personal items that they bring to school with them.

Huntsville City Schools released this statement in connection with the incident:

Huntsville City Schools is sending out a message today to remind parents about what items are not permissible on school campuses and to let them know about a student who violated HCS Policy today.

A student brought a plastic bb gun to school which is a violation of Huntsville City Schools Policy.  Page 16 of the student handbook states that, "no student may have any instrument which may resemble or give the appearance of being a knife, gun, or any weapon."  Punishment can range from suspension to expulsion.  The student in question has been disciplined according to Huntsville City Schools Policy.

We are asking parents to check their child's personal items each day to insure that they are bringing to school only those items that belong here.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
