OWENS CROSS ROADS, AL (WAFF) -

State and federal authorities are investigating an explosion that took place Thursday morning in the Madison County town of Owens Cross Roads.

The building that housed pyrotechnics company Ultratec Special Effects was destroyed, leaving nothing more than support beams and a roof.

Two workers are counting their blessings following the blast that took place shortly after 8a.m. at the Moon Drive facility. Officials said they were running from the building and suffered injuries after a fall. One was taken to Huntsville Hospital, while the other was checked out and refused further treatment at the scene.

Neighbors said they heard the explosion, came out to look, and saw fire engulfing the building. More explosions followed. The incident is being investigated by the ATF and the state fire marshal.
