COURTLAND, AL (WAFF) -

Tuesday marked an emotional turning point at the Courtland International Paper plant.

David Burnett sent WAFF footage of the first machine being permanently shut down at the facility.

International Paper announced the Courtland plant's closure in September. The first wave of layoffs will start the first week of December.

The company is offering some employees jobs at other mills.

660 employees attended an external job fair held Nov. 7. Organizers said a number of interviews have been scheduled or have already taken place as a result of that session.
