BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A Birmingham woman is in jail Monday after being indicted in the beating death of her 4-year-old child.

Police say that Lakita Swinnie faces multiple charges including capital murder, manslaughter and aggravated child abuse.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Swinnie Nov. 8 for the Dec. 16, 2012 death of her son, Jamarion Swinnie.

Authorities allege that Swinnie beat Jamarion, failed to remove him from an abusive environment and also failed to get medical treatment for the boy.

Swinnie was taken into custody Friday and the indictments were made public Monday. Swinnie was also charged with aggravated child abuse in April. That's also when investigators charged Swinnie's then boyfriend, Robert Martin, with the murder of Jamarion.

Police say this case began when officers were called to Children's of Alabama. Investigators found Jamarion had bruising on various parts of his body. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office ruled Jamarion's death a homicide as a result of his injuries.
