ALBERTVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Residents in Albertville were given the opportunity to voice their thoughts on a proposed sign ordinance for area businesses during Monday's council meeting. The proposed ordinance would clean up area signs that are in disrepair or no longer being used.

A local business owner, wholesale car dealer Paul Claborn, thinks it is absolutely vital that these signs be cleaned up. In fact, he believed in it so much, he helped write the ordinance.

The city is looking to rid itself of business signs in disrepair or unsightly portable ones. The proposed ordinance would require businesses to have a permit to construct a sign. Current signs in good conditions would be grandfathered in to the ordinance.

City Councilman Nathan Broadhurst has said the city currently has no way of regulating business signs because they have no ordinances. Claborn feels it is time to get the Highway 431 corridor cleaned up for people who may want to locate a business in Albertville.

"If you've got all these hand-painted signs that look totally unprofessional, it says something about our community, that we just don't care, and we want to change that," said Claborn.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
