BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

A Boaz Elementary School student will jet off later this week for New York City.

It was announced Monday that the student is one of three national finalists in the 'Ben's Beginners' cooking contest. The contest was started by the company that makes Uncle Ben's Rice, to help children make healthier eating choices.

Approximately 1,000 videos were initially submitted which shows families cooking a rice-based dish together.  Sydney "Claire" Noles created and submitted "Crockpot Chicken and Rice Supreme"  as her dish.

She will be traveling with her parents Wednesday for an appearance on the ‘Rachael Ray Show" and talk about the importance of getting in the kitchen with your family. She will be joined in New York with the other two national contenders: one from Georgia, the other from New York State.

All three are competing for a $15,000 college scholarship, and if she wins, the cafeteria at Corley Elementary School will receive a $30,000 makeover.

To win, she needs the public's help in choosing her video. You can vote once per day at the contest's website (http://bit.ly/18K1tw8). Voting runs until Dec. 8.
