COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

TVA has voted to close six coal-powered units in Alabama.

One of those plants is located in Colbert County. County Commissioner Roger Creekmore said the announcement comes at a tough time for people living in Northwest Alabama.

Creekmore admitted he's concerned about the trickle down affect the shutdown will have on jobs outside the plant, but said the County Commission won't let the plant close its doors without a fight.

"I'll be asking the county commission Tuesday night to consider a resolution asking the TVA board to reconsider the decision, I'm sure we'll also be contacting our legislation delegation in Washington to try to assist us in getting the TVA board to reconsider," said Creekmore.

TVA's decision also affects Kentucky were they plan to replace two plants with a new natural gas plant.
