ALABAMA (WAFF) -

Hundreds of Alabama families will participate in events across the state as a part of the fifth annual Miles for Midwives on Nov. 16.

These events will take place in many Alabama locations, including:

In Athens, there will be a gathering on Brown's Lawn at Athens State University at 10 a.m.

Cullman locals can enjoy Sportsman Lake Park and a scenic walk along the trail, with a meet time at 10 a.m.

There will be a fun walk, free lunch for families, live and local music, kids' activities and door prizes at the Central Church of Christ in Huntsville beginning at 11:30 a.m.

A Family Fun Picnic will be held in the Shoals , along with kids' activities and walks, beginning at 10 a.m. at Spring Park.

Proceeds from these events will go to benefit the Alabama Birth Coalition (ABC), a non-profit organization. The ABC has focused on Alabama's lack of midwives and is supporting pending legislation that would allow Certified Professional Midwives to attend births in the state.
