HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville police confirm they are investigating their 23rd murder in the city.

The latest incident happened Thursday night at the Pinecrest Apartments on Patton Road near Drake Avenue. Police were called to the area for a welfare check and found the victims, Jacky and Ronnie Sanchez dead. Police said it appears Jacky shot and killed his brother before killing himself.

Some neighbors are concerned for their safety while others feel the incident was isolated.

"It's strange that happened because I've been out here since 1993 and I've never known anyone to be shooting and killing anybody out here," said neighbor Flora Fisher. "I've heard of a bunch of crazy stuff happening out here but nothing like that. That's why it kind of shocked me that it happened."

Corderro Donegan has only lived in the complex for a month. He saw the flashing lights from his window.

"It shocked me because it seems like this is a really quiet place and everyone was pretty tight-knit out here and everybody knows everybody," he said.

There is still a month and a half left before 2013 is over. These residents hope this murder case will be the last one for Huntsville.

Investigators told us last month, when the murder count was 22, that although the number is higher this year they don't consider it alarming because the murder rate in Huntsville is lower than other cities of the same size.
