Huntsville Utilities warns customers of phone scam

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Utilities wants customers to be aware of a person trying to steal money with a phone scam.

Targeted customers receive a call from the following number: 256-744-3669. The caller claims to be an employee of Huntsville Utilities and threatens customers with disconnection if the victim does not immediately pay over the phone or by prepaid card.

Officials said similar scam from the same number has been reported among other utilities, including Alabama Power.

Huntsville Utilities advises customers to always ask specific information from anyone claiming to represent the company. You can always verify account status or report suspicious contact by calling 256-535-1200.
