LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Lawrence County Commission is asking for a chance to ‘go wet.'

Tuesday night, the county commission voted to ask lawmakers to let voters decide whether to allow alcohol sales in the county. The vote on the resolution was two in favor, one against, and one abstaining.

The commission said alcohol sales would bring in badly-needed revenue now that International Paper is closing its Courtland mill.

There is no word when or if the legislature will consider the request.
