DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

The Alabama Department of Labor has released its report regarding an elevator-related death in Decatur.

Authorities said Dewayne Atkins was killed when an elevator came down on him. It happened last month at Decatur Morgan Hospital.

According to the report, Chief Elevator Inspector Ralph Pate inspected the elevator multiple times. He determined that the elevator was functioning as intended and there were no violations to report.

The report states that evidence from Decatur Police suggests that the hoistway door interlock safety controls at the ground floor of the elevator were overridden.
