MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

More than 200 new jobs are coming to Montgomery following an announcement made Tuesday by elected city officials, Montgomery Chamber of Commerce officials and leaders of Hancock Bank.

The 200 jobs will be created by Hancock as it moves to open a corporate and operations center in the capital city that will handle service for the bank across a five-state area. Around 100 of the positions will be "new" to the company.

Hancock officials say the new operation center will be spread over two full floors of the Capitol Commerce Center. The approximately 40,000 sq. ft. space will include room for many of the bank's operations for commercial banking and a call center.

"It is truly an honor when a company as prestigious as Hancock Bank with a proud 100-plus year tradition selects Montgomery for its corporate and operation center," said Horace H. Horn Jr., chairman of the Board of Directors of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce in a written statement. "Yet another major financial presence has come to Montgomery, and it speaks volumes of the confidence that Hancock Bank's leadership team has placed in our community's highly trained and dependable work force."

The company was founded 114 years ago and currently has operations in five states including Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and in Louisiana and Texas under its sister institution, Whitney Bank.

Officials say they have started looking for people to fill the 100 positions. You can find out more at www.hancockholdingcareers.com.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
