A woman in Sumiton has been placed in a safe house after police were able to resolve a standoff situation in which she was being held against her will.

Detective Kris Price with the Sumiton Police Department says the situation started last week when the victim accused her boyfriend, Edward Lynn Davis, of beating her. The victim had been in the ER for several abrasions on her arms.

On Tuesday morning, police were supposed to follow up on the investigation. When the victim had not arrived by 8:30 a.m., officers attempted to contact her.

The victim's mother told investigators the victim had left the house walking and that Davis could have possibly picked her up. Police went to Davis' residence on County Line Road at Bankhead Highway. Davis refused to let officers into his home and would not say if he had the victim.

A search warrant was obtained and Davis came out of the residence. The victim was found inside and taken to a safe house. Davis was arrested and charged with 2nd degree assault and kidnapping. He is being held in the Walker County Jail. Price says more charges are possible.

The Sumiton Police Department, Jefferson County SWAT team and Walker County Sheriff's Office all responded to the situation.
