HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

City leaders opened three new parts of the Madison County Veterans Memorial on Monday, the culmination of millions of dollars in investments and years of planning.

The third phase of the development project extended the memorial via a pathway to Huntsville Depot.

A brand-new Patriots' Mosaic was first unveiled at the Huntsville Depot. More than 1,200 soldiers are pictured. Leaders then opened the Gothic Guild Patriots' Gateway, which leads to the Madison County Veterans Memorial and the opening of the Patriots' Walkway.

The dedication went to soldiers from every major battle the United States has ever been involved in. The total cost of the project is in the millions, and organizers said they waited for years for Monday's dedication.

"Raising $3.7 million takes time. We put this thing together in three phases. We got phase three complete and the entire program is paid for – no debt," said veteran Bob Drolet.

The memorial was first dedicated to Madison County veterans exactly two years ago. This, the third phase of the project, is expected to be the final phase.
