FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Vietnam veteran James Battcher commissioned into the US Army through UNA's ROTC program. When word spread the program will continue, the 1966 graduate let his feelings take over.

"We've always been a top organization, ranked high in all the summer camps. I called the school and spoke to the cadre. I think it's really super that they're going to give us a little reprieve," said Battcher.

Monday's annual Veterans Day program served as a celebration on campus – a celebration of second chances, a celebration of heroes, and a celebration of life for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

"It's a strong feeling for all those who gave the supreme sacrifice. I knew quite a few of them; they were classmates of mine so for me it's emotional to come back every year," said Battcher.
