MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

WAFF has learned the man presumed dead following a police standoff and house fire in Albertville was involved in a similar instance involving a weapon and police a few weeks ago.

Police confirmed Chris Higdon had a very short standoff with police at a home in Guntersville around three weeks ago.

Higdon's home burned to the ground Saturday afternoon after a standoff with police. Guntersville Police confirmed Monday they were called to a home Oct. 18 to deal with Higdon, who was parked in a truck with a 12-guage shotgun.

When police asked what he was doing, he said he was just sitting there. Concerned for his safety, they were able to take the gun from him and pull him from the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital to be checked out.

On Saturday, he fired shots as police arrived to deal with a domestic dispute at his home. Explosions were heard as the home caught fire. A body was discovered in the rubble around 7 p.m. that night.

Albertville authorities are waiting on autopsy results to confirm that the body found in the home was that of Higdon.
