TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Have you ever voted for a candidate in an election that doesn't even represent you? It happened Tuesday to Donna Puccetti.
"After I cast my ballot, I go back to the desk and they tell me somebody messed up," she said.
Puccetti cast her ballot at Regina Coeli School for Toledo school board candidates. The only problem was that she lives in the Washington Local Schools district.
"How does it make me feel? Toledo Public got my vote and it should have gone to Washington Local. Washington Local actually got pushed out," she said.
Puccetti says the poll book apparently listed her as a TPS voter, not Washington Local. She's heard from other Regina Coeli voters who were registered the same way.
"Basically, I cast the ballot, not realizing until after the fact. I did ask for help but everybody was busy," she said.
Puccetti's biggest worry is that the outcome of the Washington Local school board race could change because of the mix-up, but the Lucas County Board of Elections website shows the five-person race wasn't even close.
"You have to be very careful," Puccetti said. "Look at your ballot before you cast that ballot. Make sure you're voting for the right people you should be voting for."
Board of Elections Director Megan Gallagher says the mistake will be investigated.
